Dramatist, poet and novelist Amiri Baraka first rose to national prominence in 1964, with the New York production of his Obie Award-winning play, Dutchman. Baraka established the Black Arts Repertory Theater School in Harlem, and in 1967, he published his black nationalist collection of poetry, Black Magic.
Baraka has taught at New York's New School for Social Research (1961-64),and was a visiting professor at San Francisco State College (1966-67), Yale University, New Haven (1977-78), and George Washington University, Washington, D.C. (1978-79). In 1980, he moved to the Department of African Studies at SUNY-Stony Brook, where he taught until his retirement in 1999. He continues to write, and has edited many anthologies of African-American writing, and has received numerous fellowships, grants and awards.

A playwright, director and producer who has collaborated with Suzan-Lori Parks since 1989. Metzgar served for eight years as Associate Producer at the Public Theater under George C. Wolfe and was the Founding Producer of Joe’s Pub. Previously, Metzgar produced Parks’ early plays at the award-winning BACA Downtown where she was Artistic Director. Metzgar is currently Associate Artistic Director of the Curious Theatre Company in Denver, and teaches in the Brown Graduate Playwriting Program.

Founded by Joseph Papp as the Shakespeare Workshop and now one of the nation’s preeminent institutions, The Public is an American theater in which all the country’s voices, rhythms, converge. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Oskar Eustis and Executive Director Mara Public’s mandate to create a theater for all New Yorkers continues to this day on stage and extensive outreach and education programs. Over 250,000 people annually attend Public Theater events at its six downtown stages including Joe’s Pub, and at Shakespeare in the Park.

365 Days/365 Plays Project is a grassroots national theater festival conceived by Suzan-Lori Parks and Bonnie Metzgar which seeks to create a new geography for artistic production in the Internet age. Linking artists locally, nationally and internationally in simultaneous production over the course of an entire year, this project will map the rich diversity of the American theatrical landscape in new and surprising ways for audiences both live and online.

Christine Mok is a doctoral candidate at the Yale School of Drama where she is writing her dissertation on antitheatricality and transnational
Asian performance. Her recent dramaturgy credits include Tea Alagic's Zero Hour (Yale School of Drama), A Beautiful Day by A. Rey Pamatmat
(Ma-Yi) and the New York premiere of Manjula Padmanabhan's Harvest (LaMaMa). She is a founding member of Wingspace, a design collective that is featured in this month's issue of I.D. Magazine. She is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Theater at Wesleyan University. She holds a BA from
Dartmouth College and an MFA in Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism from the Yale School of Drama.

Joseph Roach has chaired the Department of Performing Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, the Interdisciplinary PhD in Theatre at Northwestern University, and the Department of Performance Studies at NYU. His books and articles include Cities of the Dead: Circum-Atlantic Performance (Columbia, 1996), which won the James Russell Lowell Prize from MLA and the Calloway Prize from NYU, The Player's Passion: Studies in the Science of Acting (Michigan, 1993), which won the Barnard Hewitt Award in Theatre History, and essays in Theatre Journal, Theatre Survey, The Drama Review, Theatre History Studies, Discourse, Theater, Text and Performance Quarterly, and others. He has served as Director of Graduate Studies in English and Chair of the Theater Studies Advisory Committee at Yale. Roach is the principal investigator for Yale's World Performance project, an interdisciplinary project that draws from the arts, humanities, and human sciences WPP is supported through funding provided by the Distinguished Achievement Award granted to Joseph Roach by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
